Koru Whānau
Pieces
Personalised, textured art pieces using Koru to symbolise family members/generations
Meaning of the
Koru
The koru, which is often used in Māori art as a symbol of creation, is based on the shape of Aotearoas unfurling silver fern frond. Its circular shape conveys the idea of perpetual movement, and its inward coil suggests a return to the point of origin. The koru therefore symbolises the way in which life both changes and stays the same - bringing new beginnings, life and hope.

Take a look at some of my
Koru Whānau Pieces
I draw all of my inspiration from our beautiful country, Aotearoa and Te Ao Māori. In my Whānau pieces you will find both a traditional Māori art symbol by way of the Koru, along with a natural colour palette as a nod to our beautiful vast landscapes.
Each piece represents up to four generations, with each family member represented by their own Koru.
Koru are placed and linked depending on the whānau blood ties or bonds, sized depending on generations or sibling ages or placed above or below depending if they are in this world or the next.
Each custom piece is as unique and full of Aroha as each individual Whānau.
